TD Place, Ottawa, Canada, Attendance - 6,042
The
Fall seasons leading 2 sides fought out a goalless draw in Canada after a match
of few clear cut chances. Cosmos had the majority of possession in the 1st
half, but could only create a couple of half chances on the Ottawa goal.
Moffat
had a long range effort saved and Restrepo launched a well struck shot on goal,
but the angle was tight and Peiser parried the ball round the post for a Cosmos
corner. There was little threat from
Ottawa in the first 45mins, but the home side did improve and created the games
best chances in the 2nd half.
Carl
Haworth made a determined run at the Cosmos defence and rolled the ball across
the Cosmos goal. It looked as if all Heinemann had to do was stretch and get a
touch on the ball to divert it into the net, but for some reason the forward
let the ball run and the chance went begging.
Heinemann
had another chance to win the match, but on the stretch he could only place a
header wide from another ball from Haworth.
In
the end the 2 sides had to settle for a point. With the Cosmos atop of the
combined standings and Fury maintaining their lead in the Fall Season as well
as recording their first point against the Cosmos, it is a result that will not
leave either side bitterly disappointed.
