Estadio Cuscatlán, San Salvador, El Salvador Attendance -
New
York travelled to El Salvador to play a match against Andre Flores' former club
in front of a fanatical support of over 25,000 for the home side.
But
it was the Cosmos who stared off strong and could have opened the scoring
within seconds of the opening whistle as a gap opened up in the home defence
which Raul ran through, but his half volley went wide of the target.
Cosmos
continued to dominate in the opening phase of the game, but the home side
gradually worked their way into the game and their pace up front made the
Cosmos defence work hard.
Cosmos
continued to create chances and Moffat set himself up after taking the ball on
his chest, but the home goal remained intact.
The
home side remained dangerous on the break and their pace got beyond the left
side of the Cosmos defence, but the speedy attacker lost control allowing
Maurer to collect the ball
The
home side did make the breakthrough and it was no surprise that it came down
the right wing. Again the Cosmos defence was beaten for pace and an inch
perfect cross was converted by an unmarked Dustin Corea at the far post.
Raul
almost equalised on the half hour but his header from a Senna ball was well
saved by the Keeper. The CD Fas keeper was called into action again seconds
later as he saved a Marcos Senna free kick.
The
home side had a chance to double the lead shortly into the 2nd half as a failed
Cosmos clearance came to Henriquez, but his shot went wide.
The
home side were reduced to 10 men after Juan Carlos Moscoso received a 2nd
yellow of the game and Moffat almost made the advantage count, but his header
from a corner went off target.
Despite
the man disadvantage CD Fas could have gone 2v0 up in the 79th minute, but
Pena's header went wide to keep Cosmos in the game.
But
New York could not produce an equaliser and slipped to their first defeat of
pre season.
