(NASL 2013 Fall) FC Edmonton 1v1 New York Cosmos

Sunday 1st September 2013
Clarke Stadium, Edmonton, Canada   Attendance -  3,180

A hard fought 1v1 draw with Edmonton left Cosmos still searching for their first victory on the road, but deserved little better after another below par performance.

The Cosmos struggled with the fast direct style of the Canadian side, with the Cosmos pressurised all over the pitch, and the visitors were having trouble with the final ball often being overhit on the artificial turf at Clarke Stadium.

In a first half of few chances from both sides, the home side came the closest, with Adur unable to keep his header down from  right wing cross in the early part of the half, and in the closing moments Reynish did well to tip over a Laing free-kick.
There was little evidence of a revival from the away side in the 2nd half as Edmonton continued to look like the side most likely to break the deadlock as Dosanjh wasted an opportunity when his heavy touch allowed Reynish to come out and smother the danger.
On the hour mark Edmonton got the goal they deserved. Reynish saved well from a Hetzog header from  deep cross to the far post, but Hlavaty calmly squared the loose ball across goal, and Purse applied the simplest of finishes.
Giovanni Savarese threw on 3 substitutes to kick start the Cosmos into action, and the visitors started to improve and Guenzatti forced Edmonton Keeper Parker into a good save after good work from Senna.
Not for the first time Cosmos got a late goal when they needed one from their Spanish International, Marcos Senna.
Cosmos were awarded  free-kick on the edge of the area following a handball decision, and Senna fizzed the free-kick through the Edmonton wall and past Parker.
In the games final stages, if anyone was going to grab a late winner, it was going to be the Cosmos, and Noselli missed the best chance when he was put through by an inch perfect pass, only for Parker to deny the substitute and the Cosmos a goal
