(NASL 2015 Fall) New York Cosmos 2v1 San Antonio Scorpions

Saturday 15th August 2015
Hofstra University, New York   Attendance -  4,006

Cosmos  returned to the top of the combined table after a 2v1 win v San Antonio. Cosmos had to come from behind after San Antonio took the lead in first half stoppage time. But the Cosmos response to going behind was emphatic, levelling almost straight away and then going ahead early in the 2nd half.
The New York defence was boosted by a starting role for Roversio, although Restrepo was on the bench for the match against his former side.
Cosmos had the better of play in the first half, but failed to make their superiority count. The Cosmos did manage to get the ball in the net in the 40th minute through Leo Fernandes after he pounced on a rebound from a Moffat effort, but he was correctly flagged offside.
But the away side took the lead in first half stoppage time through Palacios. Forbes trickery got him past Ayoze too easily and his cut back was slotted in by Palacios to give the Scorpions the advantage.
But Cosmos struck back almost immediately to level the scores before half time. Raul unleashed a fantastic first time half volley from 25 yards which bounced off the bar, but Fernandes was quickest to the rebound to head into the net.
2 minutes into the 2nd half and Cosmos were ahead, although it was a gift from San Antonio that put the Cosmos ahead. Freeman whipped in a dangerous free kick and in the mass of bodies, Rusin put the ball past his own keeper.

Ayoze had a chance to make it 3v1, but after being set up by Lucky, his first time shot went wide. With the game entering the last few minutes, former Cosmo Nane was sent off for a challenge on Senna, leaving the visitors with 10 men for the final few minutes of the game.
