(NASL 2014 Fall) New York Cosmos 0v1 Carolina Railhawks

Sunday 2nd August 2014
Hofstra University, New York   Attendance -  4,649

Cosmos suffered a 2nd consecutive home loss in another below par performance against a Railhawks side who achieved their first win on the road this year. It was also a second consecutive loss to the Railhawks, having lost 1v0 in Carolina in the Spring season, and again it was a single goal from Ty Shipalane that proved decisive.
It was a brilliant individual effort by the Railhawks player as he somehow managed to navigate his way through several Cosmos players and roll the ball past Maurer for the games only goal.
The home side started brightly and created an early chance with the best chance, falling to new loan signing Connor Lade in the opening minutes, but the Red Bulls player snatched at the opportunity and it went off target.
But the Cosmos bright start did not last long as the Railhawks started to come into the game more and the dangerous Shipalane had an effort which needed the intervention of Ayoze after Dennisen had lost the ball in his own half.
But Shipalane was not to be denied and gave the visitors the lead on 38mins, and it could have been worse for New York as just before half time, a mistake from Ockford presented King with a chance, but he got his chip all wrong and it ended up in a comfortable save for Maurer.
Cosmos did improve in the 2nd half, but the lack of firepower was evident as the best chances came from corners, but Mendes and Nane's headers lacked power and allowed Goodwin in the Carolina goal to save them.
Ayoze gain came to the home sides rescue as he made a goal line clearance when Scott was allowed a free header from a corner, and Albadawi looked like he would double Carolina's lead soon after, capitalising on Szetela's inability to deal with a cross. but the Cosmos man recovered to block the effort.
Not even the introduction of Senna after Lade went off injured could inspire the Cosmos to an equaliser, despite Flores and substitute Diosa looking lively, as the Cosmos poor record against Carolina continues.
