(NASL 2017 Fall) FC Edmonton 1v1 New York Cosmos

Friday 11th August 2017
Clarke Stadium, Edmonton, Canada   Attendance -  2,758

A second half wonder strike by Emmanuel Ledesma earned New York a draw in Edmonton after a wretched first half from the visitors saw Edmonton take a 1v0 lead.
Ameobi gave an early warning to the Cosmos defence after just 8mins when he forced Maurer into a save.
Cosmos continued to be terrorised by Ameobi who could have had a hat-trick in the first 45 minutes as his pace caused havoc with a flat footed New York defence.
Ameobi came close to giving the home side the lead halfway through the first half after hesitation from Jakovic following a long kick by the Edmonton keeper. Jakovic hesitated in dealing with the ball and Ameobi stole in to get a foot to the ball and although he guided it past Maurer it went narrowly wide.
Ameobi's pace continued to cause Cosmos problems and again the New York back line were too easily caught out by the long ball as Ameobi raced clear later in the half. The Edmonton striker did not make the most of the chance as he allowed the angle to close in and ended up firing into the side netting.
Ledesma did sting the hands of the Edmonton keeper with a well struck effort soon after, but with the half time interval approaching the home side took the lead.
Ben Fisk sent over a cross which was met at the far post by Ameobi and Fordyce was on hand unmarked to stab it into the net.
Cosmos improved in the 2nd half as Starikov came on and he had Farago diving to his right as the Cosmos man unleashed a half volley from outside the area. But Farago could do nothing with a Ledesma strike soon after which ultimately earned Cosmos a point.
Richter had a shot blocked on the edge of the Edmonton area, but the rebound fell to Ledesma. The Argentine made room for himself and sent a fierce drive into the top corner to level the scores.
Neither side could carve out much in the way of goalscoring opportunities late in the game as the sides played out a draw.
