Hofstra University, New York Attendance - 3,581
The winless Indy Eleven stunned Cosmos by taking a share of the spoils in New York as the Cosmos hopes of catching Minnesota United were dealt a severe blow. It looked as if it would be a straightforward assignment for the Cosmos s Guenzatti fired a wonderful curling effort into the Indy net after only 4 minutes, but despite dominating the first half, the home sides inability to put the game away would cost them victory as Indy rallied in the 2nd half.
Roversio had already hit the side netting before Guenzatti's strike as the Cosmos came flying out of the traps and after taking the lead the home side continued to press forward and Pedro Mendes headed wide from an acute angle as the assualt on the Indy goal continued.
Mendes was denied again later in the half as Indy's German Keeper Nicht was smartly off his line, while at the other end Indy had hardy threatened the home goal.
Cosmos would rue their inability to fashion a second goal as Indy improved in the 2nd half, although for the most part it was a sterile 45mins, but as the game wore on Indy went in search of an unlikely equaliser and were rewarded on 76mins. Senna lost the ball to Ring who carried the ball towards the Cosmos goal, but there looked little danger as he shaped to shoot, only for the effort to take a deflection off Roversio which beat Maurer.
The Cosmos reaction was disappointing, and it was the visitors who came closest to snatching a winner as a crossed ball fell invitingly for Ramirez, only for Guenzatti to intervene before Ramirez could get an effort off. It was an opportunity lost to close the gap on Minnesota who also slipped up at home, but the draw leaves Cosmos 3 point behind with just 2 games left to play.
