(NASL 2014 Fall) FC Edmonton 1v1 New York Cosmos

Sunday 28th September 2014
Clarke Stadium, Edmonton, Canada   Attendance -  3,830

The Cosmos battled to a 1v1 draw with Edmonton in a game influenced by the blustery condition at Clarke Stadium. With a strong wind behind them, the Cosmos dominated the first half, but were frustrated by a combination of good saves from Eddies Keeper Lance Parker and some timely defending. Stokkelien was a constant threat and Parker had to make a great point blank save from the striker early on as Jemal Johnson had some early joy down the left wing.

But it was towards the end of the first half that the visitors started cranking up the pressure, on the half hour mark Hunter Gorskie had an overhead kick blocked, before efforts from Mwanga and Szetela, the latter was a great long range strike which Parker did well to tip over.
Cosmos were determined to make the wind advantage count, but were denied again as a Stokkelien effort was cleared off the line by Parker, and the Eddies were relieved to go in level at half time.
Despite having done the hard work against a strong wind, just 6mins into the 2nd half the Eddies fell behind. Stokkelien won yet another aerial battle, this time from a corner and Szetela was on hand to nod in the flick on from close range.
After taking the lead the Cosmos took their foot off the pedal, although there seemed little danger as Edmonton were struggling to mount any sort of effort on goal, but out of nothing fashioned an equaliser when Horace James laid the ball off brilliantly from a Laing cross, for an unmarked Ameobi to slot home.
Edmonton were now threatening on the break and almost took the led in bizarre circumstances when a mishit Moses cross almost deceived Maurer who only just kept it out.
With the wind behind them and Cosmos looking a pale imitation of the side that dominated the first half, the home side were pushing for the  points and Laing had an opportunity after finding himself unmarked 20 yards out but lashed the ball well off target.
Laing almost snatched a winner on 86mins when his cross shot forced Maurer to tip onto the bar, but in the end the points were shared.
