Community First Park, Jacksonville Attendance 8,167
The
struggling Armada stunned the Cosmos by ending the New York's side unbeaten run
after the Cosmos' first visit to Jacksonville in the modern era. Even given New
York's long winless run away from home, Jacksonville were given little hope
after losing all 3 of their previous games and failing to score in the process.
The
first half did reflect that thought as Cosmos created several chances to score,
but squandered them all, something they would eventually pay for. the first
real chance was denied by the woodwork as
Hunter Freeman free kick struck the post in the 17th minute.
4mins
later and a well worked move gave Raul a chance on goal, but under pressure his
shot went wide. Jacksonville were looking at the back, but Cosmos were failing
to capitalise. Guenzatti was presented with a chance after more poor play from
the Armada back line, but his shot was well saved.
The
post again came to Jacksonville's rescue just before half time as Raul smashed
his effort against the post from a rebound after an effort from Mkosana had
been saved.
The
home side did manage an effort just before half time when Krizanovic fired wide
from a narrow angle after a good ball from Barret.
Cosmos
were made to pay for not taking their chances as the home side went ahead early
in the 2nd half. Jimmy Maurer was beaten to a cross into the Cosmos box and the
ball looped up invitingly for Krizanovic, who had the simple chance to tap the
ball into an empty net.
Cosmos
came close to equalising straight away as Lucky had an effort brilliantly saved
after a knock down from Restrepo fell into the path of the striker.
Armada
keeper David Sierra was called into action again as he had to be quick to
smother the danger as Restrepo shaped to shoot soon after. The Armada defence
was being cut open with regularity as New York went through again, but still
the goal would not come as Restrepo wasted a good chance by slipping an effort
wide of the post.
Jacksonville
managed to reduce the number of chances Cosmos created and when Cosmos did
manage to create an opportunity Sierra continued his heroics and tipped over a
rasping drive from Restrepo in the games closing moments.
