(NASL 2014 Fall) Indy Eleven 2v2 New York Cosmos

Saturday 30th August 2014
Michael A Carroll Stadium, Indianapolis   Attendance -  10,659

A last gasp goal denied Cosmos victory as New York squandered a 2v0 lead against Indy Eleven. Still awaiting their first ever home victory in the NASL Indy started the game all over the place and Diosa took advantage as he headed home, unmarked, from a Flores cross.
Seconds later and poor marking let Mwanga in, although on this occasion Indy managed to clear the danger. The visitors continued to threaten and Ockford headed wide from a corner as Cosmos went in search of  second goal.
The home side at last settled into the game and had Zobeck scrambling as a poor punch was returned goalwards, only for the Keeper, deputising for the suspended Maurer to recover in time to save an equaliser.
Indy did manage to get the ball into the Cosmos net on 2 occasions, only for both efforts to be ruled offside, although on each occasion the decision seemed correct.
Indy were on top now and Zobeck needed to be on hand to make a smart save from a long range effort from Kleberson, but against the run of play Cosmos  grabbed a second after great link up play between Mwanga and Stokkelien led to a goal for the Norwegian to put the Cosmos two goals to the good at half time.
Mike Ambersley shaved the Cosmos post early in the second half, but Cosmos looked comfortable until Ambersley tapped home from short range after good work from Pinada.
But as the game wore on it looked like the visitors were the team most likely to get the next goal and came close on 70mins with an effort that went just past the post.
Nane missed a great opportunity to put the game away in the last few minutes s his initial shot was saved and off balance he put the loose ball wide. The miss would prove costly, with Indy barely threatening, the Cosmos defence switched off and Johnson could not believe his luck when he saw Zobeck in no mans land, giving Johnson the option of looping the ball over the Keeper for an unlikely point.
