(Fr) Leyton Orient 2v1 New York Cosmos

Wednesday 24th July 2013
Matchroom Stadium, London, England   Attendance - 2,004

The New York Cosmos put in a respectable performance against English Division 1 side Leyton Orient, with the London side edging the match 2v1.
Jemal Johnson had the first real chance of the match in the 8th minute but fired wide, but the English side looked the sharper of the 2 sides, and Cosmos fell behind when Orient's David Mooneys header from a corner somehow made it through  crowd of players and past Jimmy Maurer in the Cosmos goal.
New York's defending at set pieces had already been exposed a minute previous when Nathan Clarke rose unchecked at the far post, but could not direct his header on target.
Ayoze came close to equalising straight away, but Ayoze saw his powerful strike tipped over by the Keeper.
Maurer then was called upon as he saved from Odubajo's effort from a Kevin Lisbie cross.
Cosmos came close to equalising before half time, with Nane, and substitute Noselli striking the Orient bar.
Cosmos lost Jemal Johnson though injury, an fell further behind when Noselli was adjudged to have fouled Orient's Mathieu Boudry in the box, and moments later Kevin Lisbie tucked away the penalty.
Cosmos pulled  goal back when Guenzatti fired in a shot which Orient Keeper Jamie Jones could only palm into the net.

Marcos Senna showed a good range of passing, showing that his quality still shone through, despite his advancing years as Cosmos and despite defeat, Cosmos can be satisfied with their showing.
